Tomato Chutney

  • 1½lbs apples peeled or quartered
  • 1lb. ripe tomatoes
  • 1lb. muscatel raisins stoned and halved
  • 1lb. Demerara sugar
  • 2ozs. mustard
  • 1oz. pepper (black)
  • 1 dessertspoon coarse salt
  • 1 quart best vinegar

Simmer gently for 2 hours and put into jars. Cover tightly.


Watch it does not stick to pot as it is easily burnt. Stir with metal spoon.


Can be used at once.
